  1. Wow this Jazz is so good. All stars in one ensemble. Apple Quality. Gotta buy a record & listen on vinyl.

  2. From Cedar Walton's first notes on the intro of Free For All, you just know you're in for something special.

  3. Does anyone know why this album's title was changed from "Free Fall" to "Free for All?" Is the name change even true? Thanks.

  4. にしても、ロクデモナイ三流商品のCMって、どうしてダラダラと長いのかね?

  5. This album reignited my love for jazz recently. Art Blakey is a monster at the drum set, he's able to play so many emotions it's inspiring…. and frustrating if you're trying to learn some of his parts.

  6. As HUGE Art Blakey & the Jazz Messenger's fan this album strikes me as having some 'Free Jazz' elements to it. I honestly think that this is essentially what the album title "Free For All" is implying. At times it reminds me a bit of the Freddie Hubbard & Lee Morgan effort "Night of the Cookers." It's a friendly competition, were each player is invited to 'blow-their-top' or basically try to out play the others during their solos. Although its a GOOD album and a worthy entry in any Art Blakey & the Jazz Messenger's fan collection, it's not one that I find myself listening to as much as his others.

  7. African American modern music at a very high level. Blakey driving all into a tight ,free outspoken masterpiece

  8. Freddie Hubbard sounds amazing on this album. Cedar Walton too — disciplined and phenomenal.

  9. Thing is about the title track, is that its so hard not to listen to the solos cause the bop is so heavy. But, if u take a full listen and just focus on the drum track, u understand the true mastery….this whole entire song is just a call and response between the soloist and Blakey….and, crazy part is, it is like he's playing a solo throughout the entire song and they are his accompaniments

  10. I've listened to Moanin' hundreds of times, so I thought I should branch out and listen to Art's other releases. This album delivers in such a way!! What an energetic groove!!!

  11. If Art Blakey and John Bonham were to have ever engaged in a drum battle, it would have been too close to call and I would give the edge to Art.

  12. The greatest album made for and attributed to MLK and all going on in Selma, etc. Rings so far true these days, that its frightening.

  13. This is the most exciting music I've heard for a long time! I have only a passing knowledge of jazz, so forgive me if I ask a very simplistic question: how much of this is improvised? Did they go into the studio with an idea of a song and then just let 'er rip?

  14. Art Blakey is my FAVOURITE jazz musician.
For now, his music has really inspired and opened my mind to beautiful fuckin jazz
and I just wanna explore it all now fuck its so good

  15. Shorter is the taller of the horn cats in the studio for this session. Figuatively speaking of course.
